Cluster analysis

Process of classification, sorting things, people, products etc. into groups. Cluster members should be strongly similar to each other, but not like members of other clusters.

GUI - Graphical User Interface (“Goo-ee”)

The means of interacting with computer software via an image based “window” rather than the text / keyboard commands of the DOS operating system.

HCI - Human-Computer Interaction

Study of the extent to which computers are easy for humans to use, or not. Standards for HCI and usability are developed under the auspices of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and the International Electro technical Commission (IEC).

Human Factors aka Ergonomics

The study of how humans behave physically or psychologically in certain environments or in relation to products or services.

Heuristic (“Hyoo-ris-tik”)

Commonly accepted principles about a subject or problem, knowledge based on results rather than a preconceived hypothesis. Commonly used in relation to evaluation by usability experts who perform analysis according to guidelines, note down observations and report them in order of severity.
